Joe Ades was a well known street fixture in New York City. The well dressed gentleman with a Park Avenue apartment actually made his living selling potato peelers on the street. He died Sunday at the age of 75. Here is a video of the master in action. Watch this and you’ll want to buy one of these peelers, too!

Thanks for sharing this wonderful NYC local color! So where can I get one of these peelers, no make that five, (I think I have at least 4 friends), now that Joe has passed on to that great veggie garden in the sky? Please feature the “go to” place on your blog soon. May he rest in peace.
incredible peeler–his demo makes them very a-peeling! Where do you get these?
Hi ! Love this blog! I enjoy all the little food facts and tidbits that you find.
I remember reading about Joe, but I never saw him demonstrating his peeler. Thanks for the video!
